The native tongue is learnt from childhood and subsequently one understands the origin and dialects wherever they nurture. Importantly, when one grows up and desires to achieve in life the importance of English surface and out of the blue needs arise. Subsequently, people get perplexed and start doing all sorts of approaches to learn fast and stand in the midst of nowhere. I was one among them and the journey of imbibing speaking English is being enunciated.
LISTING TO ENGLISH NEWS
After making a firm decision people still continue to listen to the news in native tongue. To be precise one must start viewing the best native English news channel for a minimum of one hour irrespective of understanding or not. However this will enable us to imprint style, pronunciation and new words in our brain. In the long run the cumbersome task will be easy to approach.
SPEAKING TO A BUDDY WHO WILL NOT CRITICIZE
One has to search for a buddy who can speak English. Moreover, with whom one can make an attempt to converse small sentences without being criticized and ridiculed.
TALK TO YOURSELF
Make an earnest attempt and start talking to yourself in English in front of a mirror, this will open up one’s thought process. There is no scope for being bullied or assessed. One will learn how and when to use various expressions and access where one makes mistakes.
RECORD YOUR CONVERSATION AND ANALYZE
Nowadays almost most of the youngsters possess Smartphones, one can use these gadgets wisely to record the conversation and analyze the pronunciation and fluency.
To speak fluently one must have sound vocabulary, this transcends to speak confidently. If one feels it is difficult to develop the vocabulary, then it is very vital to learn all the important terms in one’s field of specialization.
LISTENING TO SPORTS COMMENTARY IN ENGLISH
Listening to favorite sports commentary on world radio or online will enable one to picturise the play while listening to commentary. Importantly, meticulous hearing will improve your speaking capabilities to a great extent.
Tip: One can reduce the contrast of TV, Smart TV or Smartphone and listen to favorite sports commentary.
READING ENGLISH NEWS PAPER
Reading of English newspaper simultaneously will enhance confidence and will enable you to improve your vocabulary. Further one should keep note of new words they come across and learn the meanings and forms of speech.
THINK IN ENGLISH
The native language predominantly evolves in the subconscious mind while executing actions, In contrast one must shift the thinking process from native to English.
REJOICE REALIZATION OF SPEAKING FEW WORDS
When one speaks two or more words, rejoice and realize that you are progressing, tomorrow is always ours. There is no substitute for hard work. Every single interaction you have, no matter how small, will help you improve your skills over time. Be proud of your progress and it is an achievement.
STOP LEARNING WITH STRESS/FEAR BUT WITH LOVE
One who is not afraid to make mistakes will be the person learning faster than the fearful one. One is going to convey their views to others, it is not English language examination. Moreover, not speaking perfectly is not a sin, nobody can be perfect even native speakers commit mistakes. Fear of speaking English is public fear, another form of stage fear, hence comes the fictitious fear.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
One has to constantly search for speaking opportunities, as the saying goes “Practice makes perfect”. Create friendship in social media with native speakers and request them to spend their valuable time conversing. Every time one talks the barrier is being broken, your journey to fly begins.
Parents and children must understand that English is a universal language and all higher studies are in English language. Listening to radio telecasts of BBC news will fine tune one's communicative skills. One may possess thousands of skills, but communicative skill (English) is the mother of all skills. There are good speakers but they don’t know how to write a single sentence meaningfully, speaking skills were developed to survive. Hence don’t think in another way around. Tomorrow is always yours. If one understands how to use “IS –WAS- BEEN”, then fifty percent of the learning process is over.
